Prayer

Psalms 17:6

“I call on you my God, for you will answer me; Turn your ear to me and hear my prayer.”

My prayer life has been on the down side for several months now. I finally realized that I needed to change that because prayer is a huge part of a relationship with Jesus.

One reason my prayer life was terrible is because I had in my mind that God knows all my thoughts and what I need already; so, why pray if He already knows. When I did pray, I found myself severely distracted which indicates that I really wasn’t taking it very seriously.

But

I have realized through some life situations, books, and bible studies that prayer is one of the most important things in my relationship with Jesus. It’s spiritual communication and communication is not a one-way route, it takes two people. You know what that means… exactly, I have to do my part in the communication. I can’t just expect God to communicate to me only.

so, I recently decided to start a prayer journal.

The first week went so well. What I did was write down a prayer and then prayed over that for a week. I would take some time to pray and then open and read the Bible to seek answers. Let me just tell you, God was definitely working his power because most of my prayers were answered in that first week. Honestly, it was a pretty humbling experience because I was seeing God take scripture, words from my bible studies, and different podcast to answer my prayers.

It was truly beautiful, and I really couldn’t believe how much my prayer life had elevated within those seven days.

I have learned so much and I am still learning so much about how powerful prayer is.

So here are some verses God directed me towards:

“The Lord will hear when I call” Psalm 4:3

This is a reassuring verse because I can tell you multiple times when I’ve prayed and believed 100% that God did not hear me. I think a lot of people struggle with that. They go to pray and feel like God is nowhere to be found and that God isn’t listening. But obviously that is not the case. Psalms tells us plain as day that the Lord hears us when we call upon Him. That’s a beautiful thing.

“For your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” Matthew 6:8

God already knows what we need before we even tell him. So, why pray if He already knows? Because we are not informing Him of our needs, we are looking for a solution to our needs.

“Ask, it will be given; seek, you will find.” Luke 11:9

God already knows our need (Matt. 6:8), but we have to ask Him to satisfy it. We have to go and seek the answer through faith, scripture, and prayer.

“Do not worry, through prayer present your request to God.” Philippians 4:6

“Pour out your heart like water before the presence of the Lord!” Lamentations 2:19

I believe one of the hardest things to do as a Christian is to completely give God 100% because as humans we want to be in control or at least have a sense of control. I know that this is true in my life. But Why? All that brings is worry into our lives because we are constantly trying to figure out the solutions to our problems. People (myself included), there is never going to be a solution until we give it to God and let Him become the solution! God does not want us to worry, He wants us to pour everything we have to Him and to let Him take control!

One of my favorite verses that God gave me through this experience of forming a life of prayer is 1 Thessalonians 5:17.

“Never stop praying.”

These three words make a powerful statement. These three words are how God intends us to live our Christian life, in never-ending prayer. In never-ending conversations with Jesus Christ!
